Snickerdoodles:  what a funny name for a delicious, easy cookie. I was an adult before I ever ate one of these treats, not sure how that happened, but I am hooked now. When my son brings friends home from college these disappear fast and because they are so easy, making more is a snap, but in truth “more is never enough!”  I love these warm out of the oven while they are soft. Some folks prefer a crisper cookie so bake them according to your preference. This is an easy recipe and I usually have all the ingredients for those last minute requests.

Ingredients:  (makes about 4 dozen depending on the size)

  • 1 Cup Butter
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 ¾  Cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon & 2 Tablespoons sugar mixed together in a small bowl.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter, eggs and 1 ½ cups sugar, together. Mix together flour, salt, cream of tartar and baking soda.  Combine flour mixture with the butter mixture.

Roll mixture into small round balls, I use a melon scooper to make the process much easier. Roll the balls in the cinnamon & sugar mix. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for 8 to 10 minutes, light golden but still soft.

About Michele (the Author)

Growing up in Vicksburg, MS, Michele experienced a wonderful culinary experience, from seafood to ethnic foods, Lebanese and Greek! Married to John, we have two sons who have kept me busy in the kitchen. Hence, my need for good, quick food. After taking a few cooking courses, I love the learning process with tips and recipes from friends and family members. I have contributed and help produce several cookbooks for volunteer organizations. My second love is gardening which plays into my love of cooking. Nothing is better than fresh herbs used in recipes. My favorite hobby is baking, and sampling the yummy treats, they go hand in hand. Which contributes to me still being an avid fast walker, love of the outdoors and gardening, and I still carry Sting-Kill with me everywhere!
