Sting-Kill Pecan Sandies


I remember being allergic to chocolate as a child and my Mother would purchase Pecan Sandies at the grocery store for a treat. So happy I outgrew the allergy but didn’t outgrow my love of the Pecan Sandies. The Sting-Kill Pecan Sandie is my version of the recipe I remember as a child. Full of pecans, butter, eggs and they melt in your mouth. There is nothing but sweetness in this cookie and so good with a cup of coffee, tea, or lemonade. I substitute the pecan in so many recipes, which call for other nuts. The pecan is my favorite nut, full of richness. So sit outside enjoy the sunshine, have a cookie and the Sting-Kill close at hand, for those nutty bees and mosquitoes. Enjoy this little Southern nut, the pecan not me!


  • 1 Cup Butter
  • 4 Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1 Cup Canola Oil
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 cup confectioners sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 Large Eggs
  • 2 Cups Chopped Pecans
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pecan Halves for top


Preheat oven to 375.

Cream together butter, oil, confectioners sugar and regular sugar until smooth. Beat each egg into the mixture and stir in the vanilla. Combine dry ingredients, flour, baking soda, salt and cream of tartar, and then stir into the mixture. Add chopped pecans to mixture. Use a melon ball scoop to make the cookies round.

Place on an ungreased cookie sheet, put pecan half on top of each cookie. Bake 10 minutes. Remove and let cool on a wire rack.
