THE BEST Mac and Cheese Recipe
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 cups half and half
- 1 lb extra sharp cheese, grated
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce
- 1 cup mayo
- 8oz sour cream
- 1 stick butter
- 8 – 12 oz macaroni noodles
- 1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
Prepare pasta al dente according to packaged directions. In a large saucepan heat 2 tablespoons of butter and 2 tablespoons of flour over medium heat. Cook 2-3 minutes (or until it starts smelling nice and nutty).
Add 1/2 cup of half and half and stir until sauce thickens. Add an additional 1/2 cup of half and half when the sauce thickens, and then add final 1 cup of half and half and stir until the sauce becomes thick. Add cheese to sauce slowly stirring until the cheese is blended.
Mix together pasta, sauce, hot sauce, mayo and sour cream and pour into a 13 x 9 inch baking dish that has been sprayed with non-stick spray.
Top macaroni and cheese with panko bread crumbs and 1 stick of melted butter.
Place the casserole in a pre-heated 350 degree oven for 35 – 45 minutes (or until the top is golden and bubbling). Serve and enjoy!
